FOR LESLEY CHAPMAN

(1959-2009)

 

She knew the world without,

She knew the world within.

She loved Shakespeare's follies

And Beckett's weary grin.

She was a child of Aeschylus

And daughter of Ibsen.

Her charms and fears

Informed us all

Of whom we might have been,

Beyond the cruel world without,

The nagging world within.
